FORMER Dutch champion Lichelle Wong (left) and former Austrian champion Carina Hasenoehrl enjoyed a reunion in August on the
campus of UCLA, where Wong is studying psychobiology. The two
trained together for three years in Zoetermeer, the Netherlands.
Hasenoehrl, who studied and toured in the U.S. over the summer, is
studying molecular medicine in a master’s program in Graz, Austria.
For Wong, spending time with Hasenoehrl in California bridged the
miles and years. “I hadn’t seen Carina in four years, but seeing her
on campus felt like we hadn’t been apart for that long at all,” says
Wong, who competes for UCLA. “Even though we both live totally different lives now, it seemed like we just saw each other yesterday, and
we continued right where we left off!”
