WHELAN WINS BRITISH TITLE
Two days after her 18th birthday, Olympian
Hannah Whelan won the senior women’s all-around title at the British championships held
July 3-4 in Guildford. Nicole Hibbert, the 2009
junior champion, finished second. Olympians
Rebecca Wing and Imogen Cairns were
fourth and fifth, respectively. Team star Beth
Tweddle competed only on uneven bars, which
she won.

BONORA, OFFORD WIN IN OZ
Georgia Bonora and Samuel Offord won the
senior women’s and men’s all-around titles,
respectively, at the Australian championships
held July 8-11 in Perth (women) and July 14-17
in Canberra (men).
Bonora outscored Mary-Anne Monckton
(second) and fellow 2008 Olympian Shona
Morgan (third). Defending champion Lauren
Mitchell, who is recovering from injury, did not
compete. Olympian Ashleigh Brennan, who is
returning from a break after the 2008 games,
was second after the first day but withdrew
because of an ankle injury. Another 2008
Olympian, Olivia Vivian, won the Level 10
title. Vivian now competes for Oregon State University.
In the men’s meet, veteran Joshua Jefferis
competed on seven events only (85.75), and
world pommel horse medalist Prashanth Sell-athurai competed on three events. Sellathurai’s
pommel horse scores were 16.00 on the first day
and 16. 15 on the second day. Top guest finishers were Japan’s Na o ya Ts u k a h a r a (175.00),
and New Zealand’s Misha Koudinov (167.25)
and Patrick Peng (163.20).

• Amy Chow/USA: Two-time U.S. Olympian
Amy Chow married Jason Ho in Saratoga,
Calif., on July 10. Chow, who won a silver on
uneven bars in 1996 and the team bronze in
2000, recently finished her residency after
attending medical school at Stanford. Ho is an
orthopedic surgeon.
• Li Xiaopeng/CHN: 2000 Olympic parallel
bars champion Li Xiaopeng married Angel Li,
daughter of 1981 world pommel horse champi-
on Li Xiaoping and Wen Jia, who are co-own-
ers of South Coast Gymnastics in Los Angeles.
Xiaopeng and Angel, who met at the 2003 Ana-
heim world championships, had two wedding
ceremonies: in Los Angeles June 5, and in Bei-
jing July 11.
