“I feel like Beijing’s beam
routine will never really be
THE junior competition promised to be a thrilling battle between defending champion Kyla Ross (Gym-Max) and
favorite Jordyn Wieber (Geddert’s Twistars),
who missed most of last year with a strained
hamstring.
Since then, Wieber won the 2010 Pacific
Rim Championships with a score that was
higher than that PRC senior champion
Rebecca Bross.
But the showdown never materialized, as
Wieber crunched her ankles in the warm-up
and never made it through the prelims. After
nailing her Amanar vault to start, Wieber, with
both ankles taped heavily, lost rhythm on bars
just enough to cause a missed Tkatchev. “I
tried not to let it affect me,” Wieber said.
Beam was a disaster for Wieber, who fell
twice before crashing her double pike dismount to all fours. She withdrew from the
meet with sprained ankles. “It was a little bit
disappointing,” she said afterward, her eyes
revealing the frustration of being injured again.
