demons by winning the
THE Tyson American Cup once again opened the year’s international gymnastics calendar. And as in the past, some competitors still were not entirely prepared for an all-around meet so early
in the year, while those with something to prove appeared to be
in mid-season form. The winners, Rebecca Bross of the USA
Tyson American Cup
and Maxim Devyatovsky of Russia, fell into the
latter category. Bross had let the world title slip
from her grasp last October in London, and

other than his win at the Champions Trophy in Stuttgart last
November, Devyatovsky has often beaten himself in all-around
competitions. With their convincing victories in Worcester,
Mass., March 6, however, both gymnasts were able to replace
some bad memories with a very good one.
