Change 6-up-4-count format? I think 6-up-5-count
would be more interesting.
3 things Glielmi likes about coaching: Teaching
new elements; teaching how to prepare; teaching
perspective.
“Your team in September is
less important than the team
you field in April.”

Change 6-up-4-count format? Yes, I believe count-
ing 5 scores would promote depth and consisten-
cy.
3 things Golder likes about coaching: Seeing ath-
letes reach goals; seeing athletes become better
people; working with such a great staff at such a
great school on a daily basis.

Change 6-up-4-count format? No, we have had
this scoring system in place for some years now,
and it seems to consistently work for the NCAA
program.
3 things Williams likes about coaching: I get to
work with college athletes who are excited to work
for and strive toward a common goal. I’m able to
help build the character of my athletes and teach
some of life’s lessons while coaching a sport I
love. As a teacher, it’s always a thrill to see correc-
tions and changes made for the instruction and
coaching I provide to my team.

Head Coach: Barry Weiner (19th year)
Assistant: Aaron Floyd
Lost: Kyson Bunthuwong, Evan Roth, Kyle Brady
Got: Donathon Bailey & Steven LaCombe (Azarian),
Jean Nathan & Christian Monteclaro (West Coast
Olympic), Jeffrey Langenstein (San Mateo), Dennis
Mannhart (Swiss National Team)
Leaders: Senior captain Daniel Geri, juniors Brian
Del Castillo and Kyle Bunthuwong
Change 6-up-4-count format? My preference is 6-
up-5-count. I realize the FIG is moving away from
that type of team scoring, but I feel the NCAA
needs to increase or at least maintain opportunities
for student-athletes.
3 things Weiner likes about coaching: Being surrounded by a bunch of really smart young men and
hoping either their youth or intelligence may help
me become either younger or smarter. Great practices. Telling really bad jokes!
Head Coach: Justin Spring (1st year)
Assistant: Ivan Ivankov
Lost: Chris Lung, Nick Stango, Ross Bradley, Nate
Luketin
Got: Malcolm Brown (Lakeshore Academy)
Leaders: Daniel Ribeiro, Luke Stannard, Brian
Liscovitz
Change 6-up-4-count format? I wouldn’t mind if
the scoring system changed. We could go to
something a little more risky, similar to the
Olympics. It doesn’t need to be 3-up-3-count, but
using a 15-man team to allow more specialists
with a 6-up-5-count system would be exciting.
3 things Spring likes about coaching: I enjoy
recruiting (most of the time). I love working with
the team that I came from. Being … in charge of
this program’s success at my alma mater is incredible. I enjoy being involved in the small community
of gymnastics. It’s a great NCAA sport where
everybody knows everybody. I really like having
that aspect within our sport community.
Head Coach: Miles Avery (12th year)
Assistants: Doug Stibel, Blaine Wilson
Lost: Jake Bateman, Andy Saurber, Eddie Hay,
Pejman Ebrahimi
Got: Blaize Monks (DeVeau’s), John Laing (Gym &
More), Neil Zyburt (Lakeshore), Sean Reilly
(Azarian)
Leaders: Tai Lee (senior) last year’s captain;
Brandon Wynn (junior); Justin Myers (senior)
Change 6-up-4-count format? Yes, I would like to
see 6-up-5-count. I would like to see more of the
routines that are done matter to the team score.
3 things Avery likes about coaching: The thing I
enjoy most is impacting the lives of young men
positively. Secondly, I enjoy helping student-ath-
letes achieve their goals. Thirdly, I enjoy helping
and motivating athletes to work hard toward a
common goal and get ready for competitions.
