• Elsa Garcia/MEX: Eight-time World Cup medalist Elsa Garcia told IG she is in good company
among several talented Mexican teammates. “I
2008 Olympic balance beam champion Shawn Johnson says she has enjoyed
her various post-Olympic opportunities,
including TV appearances (DWTS, Secret
Life, Millionaire, Extreme Makeover) and
a recent deal with WiiNintendo for a gymnastics video game.
“It’s the first time I’ve ever had options,
really,” says Johnson, 17, who is doing
her senior year of high school online. “My
whole life has been about the Olympics,
and then the day after the Olympics, it was
kind of like, ‘Now what?’”
If she does return to competitive gymnastics, Johnson says she would like to
get back in the gym by October to see if a
comeback is feasible. “In my mind, if
things pan out right, I plan to have the yes-no, final set answer in writing by the end
of the year,” she says. Then she added
one condition: “I’m not gonna come back
if I’m not better than I was.”
