Kelly, 8, is a Level 4 gymnast who scored a
perfect 10 on vault at the Shining Stars
Invitational this year. Coached by Buffy
Disko, Kelly enters the third grade this fall
and plans to compete Level 5. She enjoys
swimming and spending time with her
family, especially older sister Kristin, 14,
who is a Level 9 at Paramount and a 3-
time state champion at Levels 7 and 8.
Talia Peterson
Bunnerong Gymnastics, Sydney, Australia
Talia, an 8-year-old National Level 2B, has
been doing gymnastics for four years.
Coached by Naomi Bruce and Kate Spencer,
Talia likes beam, where she won a silver at
the Regionals. Nastia Liukin and Daria
Joura are her favorites, and her mother,
Marie Peterson, is a judge. “Sometimes it
helps, sometimes it does not!” Marie quips.
Talia also does Surf Lifesaving and Netball.
Kristi Hayashida
What’s Up Gymnastics, Waipahu, Hawaii
Kristi is a 14-year-old Level 9 who has
trained for seven years at What’s Up
Gymnastics, owned by Dan and Belle
Misener. Coached by Yulia Rodina and
Edward Rizvanov, Kristi placed 1st on
beam and 4th all-around at 2008 Level 8
Regionals, which was her first meet outside of Hawaii. In the future she hopes to
become a Division I collegiate gymnast.
Mary Jane Horth
Gymnastics World, Broadview Heights, Ohio
Mary Jane, 14, is a Level 10 who traveled
with Team Cleveland to Athens, Greece, in
June for the International Children’s
Games, where she placed 1st AA. This year
she was named outstanding science student and received the Headmaster’s Spirit
award at Old Trail School in Bath, Ohio.
She will be a freshman at Cuyahoga Valley
Christian Academy this fall.
