Paige Bourdon
Gymfest of the Berkshires, Pittsfield, Mass.
Paige won five individual titles at the State
Cup Meet in the Level 4 Junior Division.
She placed first on all four events and won
the AA with a 38.15, the highest total
score recorded by any Level 4 gymnast in
any of the five sessions. This talented 9-
year-old also led the Level 4 Team to
Gymfest’s first team State Championship
with a total score of 111.90.
Samantha Schwartz
Ivanov’s Gymnastics, Metairie, La.
Samantha worked extremely hard last
spring and throughout the summer to
improve her flexibility. This enabled her to
learn all the tricks to become a Level 6
gymnast. This 12-year-old is coached by
Rachel Lester and Anatoly Ivanov at
Ivanov’s Gymnastics Academy, which was
completely flooded by Hurricane Katrina in
2005.
Luke Reed
Pyramid, Corte Madera, Calif.
Luke set a new pull-up record for 12-year-
olds at his gym. His completion of 29 pull-ups smashed the record of 25, which had
stood for 10 years. Luke, a 7th-grader at
Marin Horizon School, is also tops at his
gym in rope jumping and walking on his
hands. He started at Pyramid at age 3 and
was crowned the Class 5 State parallel
bars champion. He lives in Tiburon.
Sonya Meraz
Broadway Gymnastics, Los Angeles, Calif.
Last season Sonya was the Level 5 State
champion in her age group. She placed
2nd in one Level 6 competition last
December and moved on to Level 7, where
she was 2nd AA at States. Sonya, 10, is
training Level 8 and hopes to win Level 8
States and Region 1 Championships. She
is a diligent worker, highly motivated and
aspires to become an elite gymnast!
